The 2019 Bridgestone Route 66 MTB Experience

Back for the 9th time by popular demand, it’s The Bridgestone Route 66 MTB Experience and is, without a doubt, the most popular stage race in Gauteng.

This race is a must if you are planning to do Epic, Joburg2C, Sani or The Leverage Corporation’s special 3-day stage race called The Great Kei Trek taking place in the Eastern Cape at the beginning of May 2019.

The Bridgestone Route 66 MTB Experience is a tough and challenging three-day MTB event taking place from Friday the 15th to Sunday 17th of February 2019.

You have a choice of doing one of the following races:
1) 3 days: The Bridgestone Route 66 MTB Experience, (Friday to Sunday)
2) 2 days: The Bridgestone Route 66 MTB Weekend Experience, (Saturday and Sunday) or
3) 1 day: The Bridgestone Route 66 MTB Mini Experience (Sunday) – Now open to all riders

The 3-day experience will start and finish at Kloofzicht Lodge in The Cradle of Humankind, some three days later.
In true Leverage Corporation fashion, this will be a ride where you will be challenged; it will be a ride which you will enjoy; and it will be a fantastic event which is well organised and run.

WHAT’S NEW FOR 2019?

Announcement 1: No Team Entries – Only Solo Rider Categories
We have listened to you and after much deliberation, we have decided that all riders will ride in the solo category. Many of you have had your partner bail on you for whatever reason and the result is that you have had a non-classified finish. So in 2019, we will only have solo categories.
The good news is that Prize monies per category have doubled since 2018.
Plus we will have an additional R700 per day for the first male and female rider to cross the line.

Announcement 2: Introducing The Bridgestone Route 66 Lite
This is really exciting – we are now introducing The Bridgestone Route 66 Lite. If the challenges of a gruelling and tough 85km stage seem a bit daunting and you love riding stage races, we have now introduced Route 66 Lite - a 3-day stage race taking place at the same time. But remember, it’s still not a walk in the park.
Day 1 and 2 will be shorter, but Day 3 will still be the “Fast and Furious” 60km route.

The Bridgestone Route 66 Lite offers the following distances:
Day 1 - 60km
Day 2 - 65km
Day 3 - 60km

Announcement 3: Introducing a Brand-New Day 1
Day 1 for Route 66 will be a brand-new route. Here you will get to experience The Cradle like never before. Details of the final route will be available on the website shortly. We are spoilt for choice and are working on final logistics to give you the best riding possible.

Announcement 4: Introducing Chauffeur Drive for Day 1 and Day 3
We have introduced a limited special “Chauffeur Drive” service where we will have professional drivers who will take your car to the finish line on Day 1 and Day 3 on your behalf. This will save you having to wait for a bus if you have a hectic schedule. The cost for this will be R250 per trip. You can book this when entering online.

Early Bird Entries
We know that things are tough out there in the marketplace right now, so as an added bonus, we will again offer our “Early Bird” entry fee. (Please note that we have been able to keep the normal entry fee unchanged since 2016)
The Early-Bird entry fee is only available until Friday 30 November, whereafter it reverts to the normal rate.

Route 66: Race Overview
Here’s what the race entails:
Day 1: An 85km "warm up" – starting at Kloofzicht Lodge in The Cradle and finishing at Maropeng in The Cradle of Humankind. This is a new route and riders will get to experience The Cradle like never before.
Day 2: A tough and challenging 75km route starting and finishing at Maropeng. But you'll need to negotiate more than a couple "men from the boys" climbs and technical bits before arriving back at Maropeng in the Cradle of Humankind.
Day 3: A final 60km burst from Maropeng back to Kloofzicht Lodge in The Cradle.
220 km later - you're now ready for that post-race spoil. Kick back and enjoy a leisurely lunch, with our compliments, while you relax on the lawns and soak up the views at Kloofzicht in the peaceful company of family and friends.
You have the choice - ride the 3-day (Fri-Sun), the 2-day (Sat-Sun) or just the 1-day (Sunday).

Route 66 Lite: Race Overview
Here’s what to expect:
Day 1: A 60km "Cradle Tour" – starting at Kloofzicht Lodge in The Cradle and finishing at Maropeng in The Cradle of Humankind. This will follow the 85km route, but with a few “shortcuts”.
Day 2: A fun 65km route starting and finishing at Maropeng. Again, as with Stage 1, this will follow the 75km route, but again with a few “shortcuts”.
Day 3: A final 60km burst from Maropeng back to Kloofzicht Lodge in The Cradle.
185 km later - you're now ready for that post-race spoil. Kick back and enjoy a leisurely lunch, with our compliments, while you relax on the lawns at Kloofzicht and soak up the views in the peaceful company of family and friends.
As with the Route 66 main event, you have a choice. You can ride the 3-day (Fri-Sun), the 2-day (Sat–Sun) or just the 1-day (Sunday only).
